A Scaly AND Knotted Dildo
July 4, 2026
What really drew me to Twin Tail Creations’ Ember was the combination of scale texture, a knot, and short insertable length for the girth! This is a pretty uncommon combination as models usually only have one, maybe two of those aspects. Unfortunately, Ember did not quite live up to my expectations, but some of my expectations may have also been too high! It is a very pretty fade with split base pour. The tapered tip does a nice job of helping it slip in deeper when hilting Ember.
The scale and bump textures were not as intense as I wanted but that’s no fault of the sculpt and more my personal preference, having taken Bad Dragon’s more texturally intense Flint already! The main fault I have with the Ember sculpt (in medium size and smaller) is there’s not enough space behind the knot to properly take the knot and tie in. While still giving a nice satisfying stretch, it doesn’t deliver that proper knotting sensation I would look for in a knotted dildo.
Ember may be a good fit if you’re looking for:
- Moderate scaly/ridged texture along with moderately intense bump texture
- Tapered tip with a gradually widening shaft to a knot
- Shorter insertable length for the knot girth! (made my short and thick list)
- High-fantasy (dragon) themed dildo
Any notable drawbacks?
- Lack of space behind the knot makes it difficult or impossible to fully ‘knot’ and ‘tie-in’ on shaft behind the knot, at least on the medium size for me
- Unnecessarily deep urethral slit in the tip, requires more attention during cleaning
Dimensions, inches (from Twin Tail Creations' site):
Firmness/Material: Soft ('3'), Medium ('6'), or Firm (‘8’) firmness, platinum-cured silicone. The medium firmness of my Ember seemed slightly firmer than Bad Dragon's medium. Like Bad Dragon, Twin Tail Creations does not specify the shore firmness, but I would estimate the medium firmness is ~shore 0050-0060.
Suction cup base is an optional add-on for custom orders.
This review is based on the Medium size Ember, Medium Firmness, in Ember’s Signature color.
Ember’s profile has a striking appearance, a good part of what drew me to it in the first place! Starting from a more tapered cone like tip (versus a conventional rounded tip), going down to a “coronal ridge” at the base of the head on one side and starting the shaft scales/ridges on the other side. The tapered tip does not feel pointy/pokey, but does help it more easily slip into the bend when hilting for anal use, or I imagine slip in front of or behind the cervix for vaginal use.
Continuing down the shaft, the top side is mostly smooth, the sides have a row of raised bumps, then the underside has the scales/ridges. The scales/ridges on the underside of the shaft continue all the way to the base which is a nice touch! Then the mostly smooth knot encompasses the sides of the shaft and part of the top side of the shaft. The base also has a scaly texture for visuals, and details in the middle of the base give the appearance of the shaft emerging from a sheath.
As for colors, Ember’s signature colorway is a pretty one! Starting from a pink tip through the mid-shaft, fading into a light purplish toward the base, with a split base of a metallic copper kind of color. The fade was nicely done overall but if I were to be a little picky, I think it could be a little more gradual and start to fade into purple closer to the mid-shaft.
The obvious texture when looking at Ember are the scales/ridges going down the shaft of course, but much like Bad Dragon’s Flint, I actually found the bump texture more intense than the scales! If unfamiliar with scale/ridge texture, what this provides is a bit of a popping in sensation when each one passes through your hole or lips, some extra rubbing sensation when traveling inside, and hole/lips gripping each ridge on the way out (as they also have the slight popping out sensation of each one).
Bump/nub texture can be more intense even than scales/ridges, and how I would describe the feel of them are more concentrated pressure points when passing through the hole as well as more focused rubbing points when inside. Both scales/ridges and bumps/nubs tend to be toward the more intense side of textures, compared to more consistent textures like light veining or skin folds throughout a dildo. Ember does have some small areas of light vein texture on the top side of the shaft and the knot, but I could not even notice these in use compared to the other textures!
The overall textures of Ember are moderately intense, but not actually as intense as they look! I’ll compare this primarily to Bad Dragon’s Flint whose textures feel more intense overall. There are a couple of reasons for this. When pre-stretched to be able to take the knot size of Ember, the shaft is relatively smaller so you’re not at the girth limit there, where extra variations in texture I feel become more intense. The scale/ridge shape also makes a noticeable difference in feel, although visually the differences are not as obvious. In the second image here, compare Bad Dragon’s Flint on the left (green) to Twin Tail Creations’ Ember on the right (pink). Flint’s scales/ridges are more step-like which makes them feel more intense versus Ember’s scales/ridges are more rounded. This also results in the hole/lips gripping Flint’s scales more noticeably compared to Ember’s scales.
The first aspect getting to the base when hilting the dildo (taking the full insertable length), there is not enough shaft behind the knot on the medium sized Ember for it to fully pop in (for my body at least). This is a similar problem I had with Phreak’s Okami, which is not technically advertised as a knotted dildo, but the base on it is smaller (still plenty large for anal safety in my case!) I am able to pop the “knot” of it fully in with some effort. The base on Ember is much larger, which starts to get in the way when trying to pop the knot fully in and get my hole closing between the knot and the base.
Don’t get me wrong, Ember is still plenty pleasurable with the knot giving a pronounced stretching sensation, but for a well-designed knotted dildo I would expect there to be enough room to allow the knot to pop in and “tie” the knot! If less familiar with knotted dildos, it’s kind of equivalent to that popping in sensation of a plug after moving past the widest part of the bulb, with the hole bearing down and gripping onto the thinner neck. With Ember’s knot it is like experiencing the stretch part of the plug, but without the second half of the experience fully popping in and hole gripping behind it. For the large and extra large sizes of Ember there could be just enough space to tie in the knot, but for the medium size and I imagine even more of an issue for smaller sizes there is not.
The bottom of Ember’s base is glossy and smooth, with a clean trim around the base. There is some of the appearance leftover from air bubbles in the color swirl, which is not uncommon during the curing process as any trapped air bubbles are drawn up and out of the silicone pour.
Ember overall being a textured and shapely dildo requires a little more attention for cleaning than a smooth or minimally textured dildo, overall not bad except the urethral slit in the tip for appearance’s sake is unnecessarily deep in my opinion (this is also a gripe I have with Pleasure Forge’s Gnoll). This can sometimes trap gunk and require extra care during cleaning. I’m not sure if there’s an aesthetic reason over a shallower urethral slit to still give that appearance, maybe to hold a bit of lube in it for a post-cum look (like when using cum lube)? Either way, just something to note!
As for how to clean, simply using soap and water is usually sufficient for silicone, but if you want a deep clean or sanitize you can boil in water OR soak in a dilute bleach solution.
