Review of Blush's Avant Kaleido Lime Butt Plug

Fun pops of color! But(t) sub-optimal functionality...

Summary

Starting with some of the good for the Blush Avant Kaleido Lime Butt Plug, it’s a bright and colorful plug that just looks fun! The two-bump design adds a bit of pressure variation beyond a standard tapered plug, and the T-handle style base feels very safe and secure. The one big but(t) though, which is unfortunately a pretty critical part of a good plug in my opinion, is a proper neck design. The Kaleido’s neck was just too short for comfortable wear beyond a short time.

Cons: While body to neck thickness ratio was fine for plug wear, the neck was just too short to wear comfortably

Verdict: Not recommended. Everything but the neck was pretty good, but with an improper neck design I just can’t recommend it. If only the neck were a little longer for a more anatomical design, but unfortunately that is an issue with many beginner-esque plugs as there’s just not a long of length of the plug overall. 

Functionality

For functionality of the Kaleido butt plug I consider there to be basically three main aspects: insertion, comfort/fit during wear, and retention.

Insertion: Inserting the plug, unless you’re going for a more specialty type, should have a decent taper from a smaller tip out to the wider body for ease putting it in. The Kaleido does a decent job of that, with a smaller tip that is rounded (so not too pointy feeling) with enough taper down to the body to the max width, then rounded taper down to the neck of the plug that is not too abrupt. It’s not a continuous taper, as there is the thinning then second bulge of the plug for a very light beaded kind of pressure variation, but it is pretty subtle.

Comfort/fit for wear: The Kaleido plug is almost fully comfortable to wear. It is quite firm as silicone can go, but pretty typical for the very affordable silicon plugs. However, with the rounded kind of shape throughout, it’s not uncomfortable from firmness. The rounded taper down to the neck is gentle enough it does not feel super abrupt or rough when fully seating or during removal. The T-handle style base is thin enough to fit nicely between the cheeks, and has enough contour/flexibility it does not poke or dig in uncomfortably. But, and this is unfortunately the main drawback/shortcoming of the Kaleido that keeps me from being able to recommend it, the neck is just too short. You ideally want at least 1” of length on a butt plug neck for the sphincters to comfortably rest on. At 0.5” of neck length, it is long enough to be held in for short term wear, but not long enough to be comfortable for wearing any appreciable amount of time (more than several minutes). With too short of a neck, the anal sphincters will always kind of feel like they’re pulling on or trying to find a spot to rest on the plug, but just can’t.

Retention: How well the plug stays in (safely, without risk of being fully sucked in) is the other main aspect but can also be one of the most important for a properly functional butt plug. To stay in, there needs to be enough of a difference between the plug body thickness, and the thinner neck, which there is for the Kaleido. Also, the neck of the plug needs enough length for the sphincters to hold onto. This also ties directly into comfort so I discussed it there too, this plug has just long enough neck to hold in properly, but not long enough for comfortable wear beyond a short amount of time. Safety wise (and ties into comfort again as well) is the design of the base. The T-handle style base was actually quite well designed in my experience. Balanced firmness and shape to sit comfortably, but also enough structure to securely keep the plug from being sucked in.

One last thing related to functionality is surface finish/texture of the plug. The Kaleido has Blush’s very smooth surface finish which gives it a very slick feel. Note that for anal, you’ll always need at least a little lube. What a slicker surface does for anal is you won’t need as much lube for it to slide easily, as is the case with this surface finish. The flip side is, super smooth surfaces don’t hold onto lube as well either, so you can’t really use a lot of lube on it anyway (which is good that it doesn’t need as much lube, so still works).
